The City as a Knowledge Graph

HDTP (Hyderabad Digital Twin Platform) is built on SUTRA — Semantic Urban Twin Reference Architecture — an OWL 2 ontology that acts as a city's digital operating system.

Capabilities

What the Platform Does

Six capabilities, one knowledge graph underneath them all.

SUTRA Ontology

A 212-class OWL 2 ontology — the single canonical model for all city infrastructure, from water mains and stormwater drains to heritage sites and ward boundaries.

SHACL Governance

66 shapes with 118 constraints validate every record before ingestion. Invalid data physically cannot enter the graph — governance lives in the data model, not application code.

Flood Intelligence

Physics-based SCS-CN flood simulation, validated against the October 2020 Hyderabad flood event, with vehicle-aware evacuation routing that accounts for flood depth and clearance.

City-Scale Data

18.4M+ triples live in the knowledge graph: 1.28M building footprints, 43 live data layers and 150 wards — every fact carrying full provenance.

GeoAI Agents

An agent framework for satellite monitoring, network analysis and exposure assessment — each agent reads from the knowledge graph and writes traceable results back.

City Replication

Deploy to a new city via a SKOS city profile in days — not by rebuilding the platform. Hyderabad and Amaravati profiles are live.

Built on Published Research

SUTRA's foundations are peer-reviewed — published in IJCM (2025) and ITcon (2025). A provisional patent has been filed. Read the research
